IMAGINE Leaders – Gunhild Stordalen
Gunhild Stordalen
EAT, Founder & Executive Chair

I am the co-founder and executive chair of EAT, the first non-profit to link food, health, and environmental sustainability, aiming to transform the global food system based on sound science, impatient disruption, and novel partnerships.
In 2011, I co-founded the Stordalen Foundation (now Strawberry Foundation) and later the EAT Initiative with Professor Johan Rockström and the Stockholm Resilience Center (SRC), launched at the inaugural Stockholm Food Forum in 2014. The Wellcome Trust joined us as a founding partner in 2016, helping EAT become a foundation and a global science based platform for food system transformation.
In 2020, I was appointed Chair of the UN Food Systems Summit’s Action Track 2, focusing on healthy and sustainable consumption patterns. I serve on several boards, including the UN’s Scaling Up Nutrition Movement Lead Group and the World Economic Forum’s Food Systems Stewardship Board. I am Young Global Leader of WEF, 2015 cohort. I am also a member of the Africa Europe Women Leaders Network and the Stockholm Resilience Center’s International Advisory Board.
I am a Norwegian citizen and hold a medical degree and a PhD in pathology/ orthopaedic surgery from the University of Oslo. I am a stubborn optimist and strongly believe in people – and food; the magic that happens around the table when people from different backgrounds, disciplines and boarders break bread and form new friendship and collaboration. My motto is #yeswecantogether.
