Vice Chairman, SUN Group

Shiv is Vice-Chairman of SUN Group, a 120-year-old family enterprise active in Asset Management, Natural Resources, Green Infrastructure, and Technology Investments around the world.

Shiv is leading the group’s activities in Advanced Technology Investments in areas including Solid-State Batteries, Quantum, Artificial Intelligence, and other emerging technologies. SUN Group has been an early and growth stage investor in technology since the mid-1990s, and has helped create venture capital investment businesses such as Westbridge Capital, which eventually became Sequoia India.

Shiv is also the Executive Chairman of the Global Education and Leadership Foundation (tGELF), which has trained over 25 million students worldwide and organizes a global entrepreneurship challenge reaching over 1 million entrepreneurs, and curated USD 1 billion in perks and rewards.

He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement Worldwide and a founding member of V20, a global community of values experts and practitioners supporting the G20. He has served on the Board of Overseers at Wharton and is on the boards of the Lauder Institute and the Centre for the Advanced Study of India (CASI) at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is on the Leadership Council of the Brookings Center for Universal Education, the President’s Council on International Activities at Yale, the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Global Council, and has served as a board member of the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society. Shiv was elected a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” by WEF, awarded the “Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award” by Tufts University, and received the “Outstanding Contribution to Education Prize” by Wharton.

Shiv studied at Eton College, Brown (‘85), Wharton, and the Lauder Institute (‘90). He speaks seven languages, including Russian and Portuguese.

He was conferred a black belt by the Japanese Aikido Federation and is chairman of the Aikido Aikikai Federation of India. Shiv is a regular meditator and has recently translated the ancient Yoga Sutras of Patanjali from Sanskrit to English.

He is married to Urvashi Rana from Nepal and has three daughters, Bhavani, Jayashree, and Gayatri.
