IMAGINE Leaders – Anke Ehlers
ALDI South Group, Managing Director of the International CR Department
Born in 1982 and raised on Germanies biggest island Rügen, I studied Politics and Social Science in Berlin and Lund/Sweden. My first job after graduation was in the German Parliament where I worked as a research associate. This is where I first got in touch with the concept of sustainability and decided to do an extra-occupational MBA in Sustainability Management. As policymaking moves rather slow, I decided to change into the corporate world and had my first job in sustainability with the BMW group.
In 2010, I joined the ALDI SOUTH group where I was one of the first employees in the international Corporate Responsibility department. The first years of my career I had a strong focus on human rights in our supply chains and worked two years in Hongkong and Bangladesh, auditing hundreds of factories and building up our CR Units in Asia. Since three years, I am the Managing Director of the department based in Salzburg, Austria. I am leading 120 people across the globe, report directly into the international CEO and work closely with the shareholder family. I just love my job and our leverage as one of the biggest global retailers is a daily motivation booster.
