Matthew Banks is a 25-year leader of climate change activations with major corporations, along with NGOs and governments. He advises the world’s most visible companies and sectors on sustainability strategies that he strives to make relevant for various global stakeholders. He has shaped climate responses at the local, national, and international level at the most important political moments. Matt spent much of his career leading the Climate Savers partnership program internationally and two dozen private sector coalition campaigns at WWF US and Guidehouse. In 2019, Matt facilitated a pivotal roundtable with food, beverage, pharma, and apparel brands that advanced their ability to productively confront supplier GHG emissions. This led to the launch of the award-winning Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition coalition in 2021, featuring Mars, McCormick, and PepsiCo, and now encompasses over 40 marquee brands and trade groups, over 1500 major suppliers, and over 5000 individual participants. Matt supports several dialogues at Climate Week NYC in anticipation of 2030 being a turning point for the CPG supply chain action, as corporations work to peak and decline emissions, moving from pledges to performance. He is also a judge for the Hult Sustainability Prize, advises impact capital funds, and is developing a global standard focused on corporate climate results, ClimateWise.earth with Det Norske Veritas. He resides in Vermont and is a founder of the Vermont 30 Collective and Next Generation Brattleboro Initiative, which looks to include an innovation studio for new ventures taking on emissions across CPG value chains, as part of an economic development plan. He is an avid alpine skier, hiker and father of three children.
