Enacting Systems Change: Precompetitive Collaboration to Address Persistent Global Problems
IMAGINE x University of Michigan
IMAGINE has partnered with an interdisciplinary team of graduate students at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (UM SEAS) and the Ross School of Business — Naomi Barker, Doug Ely, Nick Galvin, Anya Shapiro, Adrienne Watts, and faculty advisor Andy Hoffman — to accelerate IMAGINE’s work on systems transformation.
Bringing together rigorous academic research on value chain collaboration, expert insights into what drives successful collaborations, and a roadmap to systems-level change, the University of Michigan team examined how business leaders can create a net positive economy and sustainable future in an extensive report linked below. The report:
- Examines why pre-competitive collaboration is needed to address persistent global problems, and identifies key components for successful collaborations
- Explores the process of enacting systems change in a rapidly changing world, including how different types of crises can catalyze change
- Outlines action steps for business leaders to transform their organizations in service of the world and create purpose-driven movement across industries
