Denis Karema

SokoFresh, Co-Founder & CEO

Denis Karema

Denis Karema is the co-founder and CEO of SokoFresh, a Kenyan company tackling two challenges that keep sub-Saharan Africa's 30 million+ smallholder farmers poor: post-harvest loss and unstructured market access. Since 2019, SokoFresh has grown to serve thousands of farmers across East Africa and has won the Ashden Award for Energising Agriculture and the EEP Africa Scaleup Award, among other recognitions. The company is backed by Acumen Fund, the Rabobank Foundation, and Safaricom. Denis serves on several boards, including the Eastern Africa Grain Council, a regional body supporting structured grain trade. He holds an MBA in International Business Management and a BSc in Computer Science, and in 2026 was named a Rainer Arnhold Fellow by the Mulago Foundation. He believes business can be a force for good, and that it is critical to Africa's inclusive development in the face of climate change.
