I am the fifth generation of a fishing family from Greece and the co-founder of Enaleia, a social enterprise dedicated to restoring the marine ecosystem while creating economic value for fishing communities. At Enaleia, we established Greece’s first fishing school and launched the Mediterranean Cleanup—one of the largest marine plastic removal initiatives in the region. This program mobilizes over 7,000 fishers across four countries to collect discarded fishing nets and marine plastic daily. So far, we have retrieved more than 2.6 million kilograms of plastic—equivalent to 15% of the plastic that enters Greece’s seas annually. Over 58% of this material is reintegrated into the circular economy to produce products such as kayaks, with full transparency ensured through third-party audits and open-source blockchain certification. I was honored to be named the United Nations European Young Champion of the Earth in 2020 and Ambassador for the Mediterranean Coast by UNEP-MAP in 2022. I am also an Ashoka Fellow, a European Young Leader by Friends of Europe, a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a member of the Greek Forbes 30 Under 30 list of 2020.
