Imelda Ngunzu

Mastercard, Director, Global Segment Innovation

As the Director for Global Segment Innovation at Mastercard, I focus on building commercial models for emerging segments, helping the company expand its offering across different segments. Previously, I led partnerships with Consumer Goods Companies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, connecting micro- SMEs to vital digital and financial solutions. One of my proudest achievements is leading the Jaza Duka program, which has enabled over 20,000 micro-SMEs in East Africa to access these services. Earlier on, I build the commercial model for Mastercard’s Farm Pass solution that currently digitizes transactions for over 5 million small holder farmers in Africa and India. In 2023, I was honored to be named one of Africa’s 100 Most Influential Tech Leaders and won East Africa Com’s Female Innovator of the Year Award in 2021. I am also a two- time recipient of Mastercard’s CEO Force for Good Award, recognizing my commitment to community service. I founded The Alice Ngunzu Foundation to support students from remote Kenyan communities in accessing education and digital resources, establishing the Alice Ngunzu Library and seven digital labs. Additionally, I serve on Mastercard’s Global Steerco for the Women Leadership Network, empowering the next generation of women leaders. I hold an MBA from Durham University and an Executive MBA from the University of Witwatersrand. Outside of work, I am a wife, a mother of two, and a champion for women’s economic empowerment.
